Tumby Bay and Port Neill Beach Access
Funding offered: $50,000 (ex GST)
Funding Body: South Australian Government’s Algal Bloom Response: Local Government Grant Fund
Locations: Tumby Bay and Port Neill
Project Background
The Tumby Bay and Port Neill foreshores are key recreational and tourism locations supporting swimming, fishing, boating, family recreation, community programs (including VacSwim) and visitor activity.
Across both townships, aged and deteriorated beach access assets have either been removed for public safety or now at end of asset life, impacted by the effects of coastal exposure.
The project outcome will be reinstated access at selected coastal sites in the district as part of this grant funding.
Project Information
Subject to development approval, the project is intended to support a coordinated package of works which will include:
- Design and construction of new timber beach access staircases at priority locations, including:
- Port Neill – north-west of the Jetty;
- Port Neill – Mottled Cove Road;
- Tumby Bay – Pearson Street;
- Tumby Bay – Jetty – Removal of the existing deteriorated timber ramp and replacement with stairs (retaining the existing ramp landing and fish cleaning facilities); and
- Removal of end-of-life beach access ramp at the Seabreeze hotel end of the Tumby Bay playground.
New beach access Ramp – Tumby Bay
Separate to this project council will have another project running concurrently that will enable the replacement and installation of a new beach access ramp at Tumby Bay as part of a separate grant funded project. More information about this can be found [here].
