Animal Management

The District Council of Tumby Bay aims to promote and facilitate responsible ownership of dogs and cats, animal welfare and the benefits of animal companionship, focusing on the legitimate need of pets and their owners, while respecting the rights and needs of other members of the community, and protecting the environment.

To this end, the Council’s prescribed responsibilities under law are chiefly to do with cats and dogs.

To learn more about Council’s role in animal management, please read the DCTB Animal Management Plan 2017-2022 here.

Some animal issues are outside of Council’s responsibility, eg. those relating to livestock such as sheep and cattle, and feral animals such as pigs. For information and contacts on such issues, click here.
