Tumby Bay Jetty Works Update

The initial scope of works identified for repair of the Tumby Bay jetty has now been completed, and the barge and most of the Maritime Constructions crew will move onto their next job from today. The Council is pleased to be able to report that all planned works went smoothly, and that all load testing of the structure to date has been successful.

Minor work will continue for the next few days to replace some decking planks, secure light poles and repair handrailing.

While the physical works are nearing completion, the structural safety assessment of the jetty following works is continuing, including a determination on how much of of the jetty can now be considered for public access. Depending on the outcome of this assessment, additional testing and minor works may be required to obtain final engineering certification and removal of the Safework SA prohibition notice which currently prevents public access.

The Council is aware that many people are anxiously waiting to be able to access the jetty again. While at this stage we are unable to provide a firm timeframe on when this may be able to happen, Council staff are working with the other involved stakeholders to try and make this happen as early as possible. We look forward to being able to update you as more details are known.
