Tumby Bay YAC Report - March 2019

The Tumby Bay Youth Advisory Committee has had a very busy start to Term 1. With participation up from last year, we have so far held eight meetings with at least 15 enthusiastic committee members attending.

The first weekend in March we went on a camp to Trinity Haven for old and new YAC members to get to know each other. We played cricket, table tennis and bocce, along with other fun bonding activities. Thank you to parent supervisors Charmaine and Joe Cross and bus driver Bullet Anesbury.

Last Friday we participated in Clean Up Australia Day and picked up approximately three large bags of rubbish from the Tumby Bay foreshore and a bag of cans and bottles to be recycled.

At the Tumby Market @ the Bay, YAC held a stall selling fairy floss (which was very popular with the children!) and soft drinks as well as providing free sunscreen, free bottles of water and a refilling station for reusable water bottles. YAC also supplied the chalk for the children to draw along the foreshore walking trail and you may have also seen Rosie the Goanna making her way through the markets.

Thank you to the sponsors of our market stall for their generous donations: EP Water, Tumby Bay Print, Hibble’s Pharmacy, Neindorf’s Friendly Grocer, Tumby Bay Foodland and Rodda’s Roadhouse.

Our next events will be held during SA Youth Week and the Colour Tumby Street Art Festival, which fall on the same weekend, so keep an eye out for other exciting youth events coming up in Tumby Bay!

SA Youth Week 2019

10–18 April 2019

As the largest annual event on the South Australian youth calendar, SA Youth Week showcases young people's talents, contributions and achievements; promotes a positive image of young people; acknowledges the common interests of young people and their diverse backgrounds and circumstances; and enables young people to express their ideas.

This year YAC will be hosting two "Silent Discos" on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th April at Tumby Bay Area School. Each person attending receives head phones with three choices of music. They can listen, dance, exercise, sit quietly or share the same channel with others and perform together.

Tell your friends, get a group together and dance the day away!
