Head Contractor Appointed on Causeway Works

The District Council of Tumby Bay is pleased to announce the engagement of SGP Civil Pty Ltd as head contractor on works to replace the Graham Smelt Causeway Culvert in Tumby Bay.

This project will replace the existing deteriorated culverts, while also widening the road to provide for improved vehicle, pedestrian and cyclist movements. The new culverts will also be significantly larger than the existing structure, giving increased flow capacity in the tidal creek and through to the wetland and samphire environments of the Tumby Bay Wetlands.

Preliminary works will commence during the week beginning Monday 18th October, with the project expected to be fully completed by April 2022. During the initial stages of works service locating and alteration works will be completed, along with the installation of bypass pipes to allow continued base flow into the wetlands during the construction period. Speed restriction and temporary lane closures will form part of the traffic control measures and road users are asked to be aware of and comply with the posted directions.

The Council gratefully acknowledges the contribution of the State Government to this project, with 50% of the expected $3.3million project provided by the Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program.
